    RESOLUTIONS

Resolutions are an interesting concept.  One definition for the word/concept is:  "The act of resolving to do something."  Another definition is:  "A course of action determined or decided upon."

As I consider both of those definitions, I see nothing in them that suggests equivocation or lack of commitment.  On the contrary, by these definitions the concept of New Year's Resolutions is clear and absolute.  A resolution is, very simply, something that we say we are absolutely going to do!

If that is the case, then why do so many New Year's Resolutions fall by the wayside during the year?  My belief is the answer to that question is embodied in a goal-setting concept espoused by the legendary motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar.  It is his belief and I agree that the key to achieving any goal is having a "Great Big Why."  In other words, we have to have a deep emotional attachment to our goals.  And, so it is with our New Years's Resolutions.
