Is Perfect Success?

    IS PERFECT SUCCESS?

Way back when I wrote in an earlier article that I subscribed to the definition of success espoused by the great, former college basketball coach, John Wooden.  He believes, "Success is peace of mind achieved as a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

No where in that definition is there a direct or indirect reference to perfection being necessary to achieve success.  The focus is on becoming all you can be.  That doesn't necessarily require perfection.  In fact, I believe perfection is not a destination.  It is a journey over a lifetime the destination of which is not perfection but capable completion.

I'm not saying we all shouldn't try to achieve perfection in every task we set out to do.  In doing so, however, we have to recognize that were we to actually achieve perfection in everything we do we have actually set a new standard for how perfection would be defined.  I believe this is true because we can always get better...become a higher level of perfect, if you will.

So, is perfect success?  I think not.  Yes, if we have done something perfectly we can say we have succeeded to a point.  But, then comes the question, what next?
